“The Wizard of Oz” Movie Review: A Magical Adventure into a Colorful World

At 10 years old, I appeared in a production of the Wizard of Oz, so I was excited to take my daughter to see the musical at Edinburgh’s Playhouse Theatre, writes Fiona Bennett. I had no idea what to expect, and my daughter was equally curious before the show began.

The performance started with Aunty Em and Uncle Henry along with Dorothy and Toto, creating a cozy and familiar atmosphere. We were pleasantly surprised when Glinda entered on a motorbike, adding a modern twist to the classic story. Despite these updates, the beloved story remained intact.

Dorothy’s performance was flawless, earning a standing ovation. We also enjoyed Vivienne’s portrayal of the Wicked Witch and Gary Wilmot’s entertaining Wizard. The tin man, lion, and scarecrow stole the show, especially the scarecrow, which had my daughter laughing uncontrollably.

This performance was a huge success for my easily bored daughter. The lion’s performance captured my heart, and I was surprised to see many adults attending the show, possibly driven by nostalgia.

The show will tour Glasgow and Aberdeen in July 2024. www.wizardofozmusical.com.
