Sir Sean Connery is being honored with a new award at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. The Sean Connery Prize for Feature Filmmaking Excellence is a collaboration between the festival and the Sean Connery Foundation. A shortlist of 10 world-premiere feature films will be screened at the festival, and the winner will be chosen via an audience vote, receiving a £50,000 prize. Sir Sean’s stepson Stephane expressed that the late James Bond star would have been thrilled about the prize and the focus on expanding opportunities for talented young people from Scotland to access careers in the film industry. Festival director Paul Ridd mentioned that Sean Connery was a vital patron of EIFF, consistently supporting new talent and gracing red carpets. The festival will also be launching a short film competition with a cash prize of £15,000. This event will take place from 15-21 August.
