The first Scottish Schools’ Mountain Bike Championships at Comrie Croft in Perthshire has been named ‘Event of the Year’ at the 2023 Scottish Cycling Awards. The championship is a partnership between Morrison’s Academy, Comrie Croft, and Scottish Cycling aimed to increase opportunities for young racers to compete and encourage novice riders to get involved. The event saw 300 secondary school pupils from 37 schools in 18 local authorities take to the trails, with 48 female riders and 95 participants diving into MTB racing for the first time. Former Morrison’s Academy pupil, Charlie Aldridge, was recognized as Scottish Cycling ‘Male Rider of the Year’. The event aimed to create more opportunities for young Scottish racers to compete and give newcomers a chance to get involved. Morrison’s Academy pupil, Oliver Elliott, believes grassroots events like this help young riders take mountain biking to another level.
