To mark King Charles’ 75th birthday, Balmoral Castle and Estate have released a special edition whisky. The limited edition whisky is a 45-year-old single cask that was distilled at Royal Lochnagar, which is located near the Royal Family’s Scottish home. The whisky was distilled on 7 November 1978 and only 253 bottles were filled and numbered by hand after being tasted by the King. It is bottled at natural cask strength, 52.1% abv, and is priced at £3,200 per bottle.

Only 253 bottles of the special edition whisky were filled and priced at £3,200 per bottle. The whisky was distilled on 7 November 1978 and was tasted by The King. Additionally, three bottles will be retained by Balmoral to raise funds for charitable activity in Aberdeenshire, and bottle number 75 will be placed in the Royal Lochnagar archive. The whisky is described as having a delicate interplay of fresh berries, redcurrants, and citrus zest on the nose, with Royal Lochnagar signature fruit notes, candied walnuts, toffee undertones, and oak spice on the palate.

Ewan Andrew, President of global supply chain and procurement at Diageo, expressed the pride of Royal Lochnagar in supplying their Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky to Balmoral. The spokesperson highlighted the significance of the occasion and the whisky’s shared historical connection with Balmoral. The whisky is presented in a case made with larch from the Balmoral Estate to mark the King’s 75th birthday.
