Aberdeenshire’s hotel has acquired a rare £150,000 single malt, The Reach by The Macallan, to offer to its whisky club members. The whisky was distilled in 1940 and has been maturing for 81 years, making it one of the oldest in the world. Meldrum House Country Hotel is one of only two luxury Scottish hotels to have purchased this historic bottle. The whisky will be showcased in the 800-year-old Cave Bar for members to admire and enjoy. The revered dram will be presented in a mouth-blown decanter and will be cradled on a bronze sculpture of three hands, each with its unique significance. The hotel’s Cave Bar, with its 120 rare and independent whisky options, has added four new whiskies to its collection, including a 2023 Macallan 25-year-old sherry cask and a 2022 Macallan M decanter. The hotel’s managing director, Jordan Charles, expressed pride in displaying such a legendary whisky while inviting guests to experience it amidst the hotel’s 800-year history.
